Mac Os 7 Boot Image For Sheepshavcer

This manual is revised for use with the July 2018 and later builds of SheepShaver for Intel Macs.
For older SheepShaver builds that will run on PPC Macs, see this older setup guide.

This is a project that I have been tweaking around with since late 2011. It started with Mac OS 9.0.4, a newworld ROM file, and the SheepShaver program + the GUI. I have since added a lot to the package, and will post any update info here. As of current update: - Minor bug: Must install GTK Runtime to default folder in Windows 7. Jun 28, 2008  Start Mini vMac with “Install 1″ disk image of System 7.0.1. From Mini vMac’s File menu, mount the empty 500MB hard disk image. Choose to install System 7.0.1 on the 500MB hard disk image. When prompted, use Mini vMac’s File menu to switch to “Install 2″ and other System 7.0.1 installation disk images.

Download both SheepShaver Folder and SheepShaver application from this forum topic.
Please read the information on that page, newer information may not yet be included in this manual.

Classic setup: We start with the description of a classic setup with all files together in a folder named “SheepShaver”. That folder can be anywhere you like, for instance in your Applications folder or in your Home folder. In this setup, with the needed files together with the SheepShaver application in the SheepShaver folder, full paths are not required for configuration, just file names will work.
However, files and folders can be renamed and/or moved to different locations, provided you make sure the file names and/or full paths to the files are entered in SheepShaver preferences.

Changing settings: After saving changes in preferences, always quit the SheepShaver application, shut down the emulated machine, and launch SheepShaver again. Only then will the changes take effect, after only a restart of the emulated machine new settings will not be used.

CD-ROMs: Up to Mac OS X 10.7, physical CD-ROMs can be mounted within SheepShaver. Just insert the CD on the host system and the CD will be mounted on the guest desktop. OS X 10.8 and later prevents mounting of physical CD-ROMs in SheepShaver but disk images created from CD-ROMs will work fine.

As most users will now use disk image files instead of physical CD-ROMs, this guide will describe a setup with installation of the Mac OS using a disk image file created from a system install CD.

(Alternative instructions for using a real physical install CD are added throughout this guide in italics between brackets.)

What is Mac OS 9.2.2 Universal (2013 MacOSLives edition)?

Compliments of www.macos9lives.com/smforum

This unofficial Mac OS 9.2.2 universal boot CD was compiled in 2013 by/for macos9lives. This is not the installer released by Apple. This is a 9.2.2 drive image that includes updates and graphics drivers released after the offical 9.2.2 installer CD. It contains CPU version 5.9, Mac ROM 10.2.1, DiskCopy 6.5b13, the older DriveSetup 1.5.2 for compatibility, and other custom variations that are discussed over at their forum. The updates were included in MacOSX 10.2. This system is intended for those who want the updated OS 9.2.2 without having to install MacOSX. If you plan to install OSX then you should use the offical Apple installer from 2002.

See compatibility notes below for some comments about models that it could not boot. If you want a way more successful Mac OS 9.2.2 boot CD, try the Mac OS 9.2.2 universal boot CD (2002 edition).

Does not boot G3 (450mhz) iMac DV+ from summer 2000. -- that-ben

This is supposed to support any G3 or G4 Mac computer, but I tried on a eMac G4 with 1Ghz 2003 and the 17 inches monitor not was detected. -- Xor Prime

it is supposed to boot into all machines.. which support OS9. emacs and xserves are out of the game, fw-800 macs need OS9drivers on their HDs and/or open firmware hacks, and old world G3s require '9enabler' --IIO

Emulating this? It should run fine under: SheepShaver
